FAIR deposition of research data enables scientists to incorporate archived data in future research projects. In two German biomedical Collaborative Research Centers (CRC) 1002 (“Modulatory Units in Heart Failure”) and 1190 (“Compartmental Gates and Contact Sites in Cells”), research data organization is supported by an integrated and long-term accessible Research Data Platform (RDP).

As a central RDP module we implemented an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN), RSpace, to facilitate structured cross-linking of the large heterogeneity of digital biomedical research data with primary experimental documentation “at the bench”.  RSpace is designed as a shared and connected tool with interfaces to a variety of existing research data repositories. To demonstrate the benefits of an easy-to-use integration of the ELN and an open source research data repository the Göttingen eResearch Alliance provided a pilot implementation of Dataverse as part of the Göttingen Research Online database, supported by the Dataverse team.

We propose a presentation of the integration, a discussion of our experience to date, and an overview of improvements to the RSpace – Dataverse integration and workflow that we are considering.
